Nestled in the heart of Otter Tail County’s lakes country, home to over a thousand lakes, Sunset Bay Resort on Dead Lake in Richville, Minnesota, is the perfect lakeside getaway! Set on 15 secluded wooded acres with 550 feet of pristine sugar sand beach, Sunset Bay Resort is truly a hidden gem.
We now offer 8 lakeside cabins, new cabins 9-12, a rental home (The House on the Hill) and a park model rental (The Cozy Cabin). Our amenities include a spectacular swimming beach, private boat launch, game room/lounge, fish cleaning station, guest laundry, shower house, and a small on-site store. And, of course, our breathtaking sunsets are unmatched!
Dead Lake spans over 7,900 acres with depths over 60 feet. More than 80 percent of the lake has a depth of 15 feet or less. It offers over 36 miles of lakeshore and varied structure. Dead Lake enjoys a reputation for excellent fishing for walleye, large-mouth bass, northern pike, crappie, bluegill and sunfish. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources within its Lake Report states that “Dead Lake has a reputation as one of the best all-around fishing lakes in Otter Tail County.” It is known as one of the best lakes for fall fishing in the area, and offers duck hunting opportunities as well.
Our beach is one of our best features! We have over 550 feet of clean sugar sand shoreline to build that perfect sandcastle, with a beachside playground and a buoyed swimming area with a raft. Supplied free for guest use are paddleboats, canoe, kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards! Please note that there is no lifeguard on duty. Sunscreen is available for purchase in the Office, as well as scrumptious ice cream bars for that lazy afternoon at the beach.
